What is Co-Treatment at SPOT Collective and How Does It Look?

Co-treatment session supporting communication and regulation through play

Co-Treatment

Co-treatment is the heart of SPOT Collective.  By combining speech and occupational therapy within the same session, we support communication, regulation, sensory processing, motor planning, executive functioning, social connection, and participation together in real time. This model is especially helpful for children whose needs overlap across communication, movement, regulation, and everyday routines.

Because these skills don't happen in isolation, we shouldn't treat them in isolation.

Social & Regulation Groups

We offer small group programs designed to support social interaction, emotional regulation, flexible thinking, communication, and peer interaction in a structured, supportive environment. Groups are thoughtfully designed around children's profiles and may include movement, play, problem-solving, sensory supports, and caregiver carryover strategies.

Pediatric speech therapy supporting communication and AAC

Speech Therapy

We provide individualized speech and language therapy to support communication across all environments. Services may focus on expressive and receptive language, speech sound production, social communication, gestalt language processing, AAC, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and functional communication skills with family members, peers, and community partners. Sessions are designed to be engaging, meaningful, and tailored to each child’s unique strengths and needs.

School and community consultation for pediatric therapy supports

Community Consultation

Community consultation supports schools, childcare programs, camps, recreation programs, businesses, and community spaces in becoming more accessible, inclusive, and supportive for children and families. Through observation and collaboration, we provide practical strategies such as environmental recommendations, staff education, and supports for communication, regulation, engagement, and participation within real-world settings.

Specialized Services at SPOT Collective

Co-treatment is a collaborative approach where a speech-language pathologist and occupational therapist work together within the same session to support the whole child during meaningful play, movement, routines, problem-solving, and social interaction. Rather than separating communication, regulation, sensory processing, motor skills, and participation into different sessions, co-treatment allows us to address these skills together as they naturally occur. This integrated model often reduces the need for multiple separate appointments while enhancing the quality and consistency of care. Co-treatment allows for stronger carryover into everyday life. Families benefit from shared strategies and a unified approach, making it easier to support their child across environments. For example, during one activity, a child may be working on: -Sensory processing and modulation -Tolerating a transition or change in plan -Planning and completing a motor sequence -Staying regulated during a challenging moment -Engaging with a peer or adult -Solving a problem -Repairing a communication breakdown -Building confidence and independence The speech-language pathologist may support communication, language, AAC, social understanding, and self-advocacy while the occupational therapist supports sensory processing, regulation, motor planning, body awareness, executive functioning, and participation. By working as a team in real-time, we are able to respond to each child's needs more dynamically, support skill integration across domains, and create more meaningful and efficient progress. Co-treatment may be especially helpful for children who: -Have strong ideas but difficulty communicating them clearly -Become overwhelmed during transitions, demands, or social situations -Need movement or sensory input to stay regulated and engaged -Struggle with flexible thinking, problem-solving, or peer interaction -Have difficulty participating in play, school routines, or community activities -Need support connecting communication, regulation, and action in real time
